Oral Cancer Screening
Studies show that one American dies every hour from oral cancer. Virtually everyone is at risk for oral cancer, but tobacco and alcohol users, patients 40 years and older, persons with a history of oral cancer and patients who are sexually active with HPV, are at a higher risk. With today’s advancements in technology, we are able to detect oral cancer at an earlier stage, which can ultimately save lives. At Downtown Dentistry, we utilize ViziLite Plus exams, in combination with a conventional visual exam, to identify precancerous or cancerous abdnormalities in the mouth. With ViziLite, it's simple. Patients will first rinse their mouths with a cleansing solution. Then, Dr. Holtgreive will use ViziLite, a specially designed light, to examine your mouth, searching for oral lesions. If there are any suspicious oral lesions, it will be marked with a noticeable blue dye. This will inform the doctor that further examination and possible treatment is required. We recommend annual ViziLite Plus exams to ensure optimal oral health.
